Compare by State or Territory

Composed of six states and two territories within its primary boundaries, Australia has long been a land of adventure and advancement. Each state originated as a British colony until Federation of the country in 1901. Each state is self-governed and protected by the Australian Constitution. The two primary territories are also self-governing, but their laws can be overridden by the Australian Parliament, though they rarely have done so. The Commonwealth government, however, administers uranium mining rights and Aboriginal rights in the territories; it does not within the six states.

Australia's economy rivets around trade, mining, and agriculture but is as highly diverse within those parameters as the country itself is. The cost of living in Australia compares favourably with other developed countries and paces its economy well. With it being a short flight to Bali, Fiji and, Singapore having rental housing rental income is also a good idea for travelers.

The average education levels of its inhabitants are among the highest in the world. Approximately 99% of Australians gain literacy; 89.7% complete secondary schools, and 29% pursue tertiary education.

From bustling cities bursting with energy to the untamed wilderness of the outback, almost anyone finds living and working in Australia a unique and rewarding experience.
